Naomi Makemie Presbyterian Church (NMPC) is in
the
historic town of Onancock on Virginia’s beautiful Eastern Shore of the
Chesapeake
Bay.
NMPC, officially founded in 1883, is located in the
town where Francis Makemie resided in the 1680’s when he brought Presbyterianism to the United
States. He brought his bride, Naomi Anderson
Makemie, to a house located near the current Onancock Wharf. This house
was licensed as a Presbyterian
Church (have fun trying to read this from the Accomack
County Court Records = Book 1697 – 1705). Go to a more complete

Similar to many churches built during the 1800s,
NMPC has many stained glass windows. These windows are illustrated and described in later pages
on this site.
The current church has a membership of slightly
over 100 with weekly attendance of 80-95 people.

morning we have a special beginning of the service, the Flowering of the Cross . Click to

Our weekly Sunday services include Sunday
School
at 9:30AM and Worship
Service at 11:00AM. If you prefer earlier
services, try our yoked church in Accomac, 4 miles away - Makemie Presbyterian.
We are located at the corner of Market and Lee
Streets in Onancock. From Route 13, turn west on Route 179
(Burger King on northwest corner of 13 & 179). You will find
us on the
north side of the street in aproximately 2 miles.
