Directions for Knitting Infant Caps

Materials: Bernat Softee Baby Yarn or Baby Sporting Yarn
Needle: size 4

Cast on 64 sts loosely or with a larger needle
Work in garter stitch (knit every row) for 4 inches
Decrease to shape the top of the hat:
Row 1: *K 6, K2tog* across row
Row 2: *Even rows: knit across
Row 3: *K5, K2* tog across row
Row 5: *K4, K2tog* across row
Row 7: *K3, K 2tog* across row
Row 9: * K2, K2tog* across row
Row 11: *K1,K2tog* across row
Row 13: *K2 tog* across row
Finishing:
Finish with 8 stitches on needle
Cut yarn leaving a 12" tail
With a yarn needle thread through the remaining loops on the needle
Sew seam of hat on right side until 1" remains, put yarn through to wrong side of hat.
(This is done so you can't see a seam when you fold up the brim of the hat.)
Weave in the remaining tail
Turn up cuff.
Directions for Crocheting Infant Caps

Materials: Recommended yarn is Baby Sport weight or Bernet Softee Baby
Size E or F hook

Chain 4 Join with a sl st to form a ring
Row 1: ch 2: 12 dc in ring. Join last dc with a sl stitch
Row 2: ch 2: 2 dc in each dc. Join with a sl stitch
Row 3: ch 2 (2 dc in first stitch. 1 dc in second stitch) repeat 6 times. Join with slip stitch
Row 4: ch 2 (2 dc in first stitch, 1 dc in second stitch, 1 dc in third stitch) Repeat around the row. Join last dc to first dc with sl st.
Row 5 - 12: ch 2: 1 dc in each stitch around and join with sl st (50 dc)
Row 13 - 15: Change color, 1 sc in each stitch around and join with sl st
Row 16: Change back to main color. 1 sc in each stitch around and join with slip stitch.
Cut yarn and weave in remaining yarn. Fold up a cuff around the cap.
It isn't necessary to change colors... just follow directions to end.

Attach a small prayer with each cap. Ex: “Made with God's loving hands for your Baby” or scripture of your choice.
